2023 • All
Bolivia’s Madidi National Park is one of the largest nature reserves in the world, home to some of the most biodiverse species. Marcos, the park’s director, investigates the illegal hunting and trafficking of jaguars and discovers that the Chinese are buying their fangs. Meanwhile, Laurel Chor, a Hong Kong journalist and environmentalist, investigates the illegal trade in tiger tusks, and discovers that wildlife byproducts are being smuggled into China from South America. The director, Elizabeth Unger, alternates between the stories of two protagonists dealing with the same issue in different parts of the world. Through the interviews with smugglers, buyers, and sellers, the film reveals the vicious cycle of wildlife trafficking fueled by human desire.
