Gisaengs in the early 20th century got respected for their excellent art: they were in charge of conserving and evolving traditional art as well as embracing the new forms of art from abroad. Kwonbun(School for Gisaeng) in Gunsan, Busan, and other big cities raised talented Gisaengs who could sing, dance, play instruments, and act. In 1930, some Gisaengs transferred the culture to Japan. But now, we remember Gisaengs as barmaids or prostitutes. What happened to the gifted and trailblazing artists? Why remaining Gisaengs and Kwonbun students try to hide their past? GISAENG: CONFESSION OF FLOWER explore the history of Gisaengs in the modern era by following Jang Geum-do, the last Gisaeng as an artist.
