The King's Letters
2019 • All • 1h 50m • History / Drama
King Sejong wishes to invent new letters so long. When the Japanese envoy demands Tripitaka Koreana, the Queen asks an old monk for advice to reject the request. He recommends Shinmi, who persuade the envoy to make their own Tripitaka. The King learns Sanskrit from Shinmi and two other monks and realizes he might find a breakthrough in the invention. The monks stay the Queen's palace and teach two princes foreign languages. The King expresses the desire to distribute knowledge to all the people, while scholars and officials oppose the idea, saying using new letters would anger the Ming Emperor. The monks finally create the easiest and most beautiful letters in the world. Right before the declaration, however, the King and Shinmi had a falling out over the participation of Confucian scholars.
